What happens when you need to manage 5-15% of weekly growth, have millions of users on your platform, and must ensure uptime 24/7? At Kapten, we moved from two to fifty developers and from one monolith to 130 microservices, implemented event sourcing, migrated from Heroku to Google Cloud and Kubernetes, and switched from Node/JavaScript to TypeScript. We faced various challenges on our path, such as technical debt management, which we reduced through a peer review process and the creation of a microservice chassis, internal tools development in order to implement an automatic release process – from code to production twice a day – and platform performance management due to the constantly increasing load on the platform. This talk will provide you with insights into the technical and organizational challenges of a fast-growing European company.

Kapten was launched in 2012 and is now a major player within the French ride-hailing market.
