A Visualization of Supervised ML Algorithms (in Javascript)

ESPN’s Soccer Power Index (SPI) “combines game and player ratings to estimate a team’s overall skill level.” In 2014, the SPI was featured in an article published by FiveThirtyEight titled “It’s Brazil’s World Cup to Lose.”

You might recall that Germany won that year – not Brazil.

8 years and a pandemic later, however, can we use 2014’s SPIs and the outcome of games to better predict the next World Cup’s winner?

This talk uses the 2014 data set to discuss and visualize supervised machine learning algorithms, then discusses why some algorithms may be better suited for the problem than others.
